Project-level permissions
Each role defines specific access rights within a project. You can create as many sets of custom user permissions as you need, but ActiveSLR® offers the following preset rights:
- Manager: A manager role is designed for someone who oversees, reviews and quality checks the literature review progress, but does not do the screening or extraction themselves.
- Reconciler: Reconcilers are people who are only brought in at key stages of the review process, to finalize inclusion lists. This starts when reviewing potential duplicate references, then will reconcile screening and full text decisions, as well as data extraction.
- Screener: A team member with the Screener set of permissions will only have access to parts of ActiveSLR® needed for actually performing the review: they can review duplicates in queues, screen studies, and extract data.
ActiveSLR® allows teams to create custom roles. Figure 1, below, gives examples of “FullAccess” and “Test”, but you can tailor permissions for new roles as you need.
Application-level permissions
These permissions manage the overall use of ActiveSLR®. As standard, ActiveSLR® offers three permissions levels (with two being editable if you need):
- Admin: Admin has full access to the application, including users and roles management, adding/archiving projects, managing permission of app and project role, and access to activity logs. Admin rights are fixed and cannot be modified.
- Manager: Like admin, manager has all accesses including managing users, roles, projects, permissions, and view logs. However, the permissions associated with Manager role can be changed according to need.
ActiveSLR® provides flexible access and permission controls, allowing teams to create their own customized permission matrices. Figure 2, below, illustrates custom roles like “User” where access can be tailored based on requirements.

ActiveSLR® uses a two-step process to eliminate duplicate studies, saving you significant time and effort.
- True duplicate removal: ActiveSLR® instantly identifies and flags 100% identical duplicates for removal in a few clicks.
- Guided review for possible duplicates: ActiveSLR® uses a bespoke AI solution to identify references that have a very high degree of similarity, though these need to be confirmed as duplicates by the user. To make this step as quick as possible, ActiveSLR® shows both (or all three) suspected duplicates (or triplicates) side by side, highlighting key differences among citations. You can then quickly select which references to keep and which to mark as duplicates.
In terms of how accurate this is, in our recent International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) poster, we reported that ActiveSLR® identified 100% of duplicates within 15 minutes (average) in each of the four assessed projects.
- Deduplication of ActiveSLR® is distinct in its algorithm from other tools. The algorithm compares publications with selected parameters and, based on the extent of matching, assesses whether two or more studies are duplicates. This list of suspected duplicates are unique to ActiveSLR®.
